Urgent appeal

They have run out of everywhere to run to.

More than a million children are living without safe water, enough food or anywhere safe to sleep. Our teams are already there. What they need is the means to keep going.

Crises our teams are responding to now

Some of these you will have seen on the news this week. Others stopped being news a long time ago, and the children in them still need everything.

CriticalGaza crisis

Middle East

Gaza: a childhood under siege

Children are surviving on a fraction of the water they need and going hungry in a place where food exists but cannot reach them. Our teams are running mobile health points, treating malnutrition and delivering water by tanker wherever access allows.

SevereDRC emergency

Africa

DRC: displaced again and again

Escalating conflict in the east has forced families to move repeatedly, often with nothing. We are registering separated children, running safe spaces and treating acute malnutrition in overcrowded sites.

Recovery phaseNepal floods

Asia

Nepal: rebuilding after the floods

Monsoon flooding and landslides swept away homes, schools and harvests. Our response has moved from emergency shelter into getting children back into classrooms and restoring family incomes.

Venezuela: a region on the move

Families crossing borders in search of food and medicine arrive exhausted and in debt. We work along the migration routes with nutrition screening, child protection and cash assistance.

CriticalSudan conflict

Africa

Sudan: the hunger emergency

Two years of fighting have collapsed health services and pushed communities into famine conditions. We run stabilisation centres for severely malnourished children wherever access can be negotiated.

Asia

Afghanistan: winter without work

Drought, earthquakes and an economy in freefall have left families unable to afford food or fuel. We deliver cash, cold-weather kits and mobile health care to remote districts before the passes close.

How we empower children

Four things every child needs, wherever they are born

Health, resilience, education and protection are not separate programmes competing for the same budget. They arrive together in a child's life, so we deliver them together.

Health

No child should die of something we know how to treat

We train and equip frontline health workers so that pneumonia, diarrhoea, malaria and malnutrition are caught early — in the village, not after a day's walk to a hospital that may have no drugs left.

  • Community case management for the illnesses that kill most under-fives
  • Stabilisation centres for severe acute malnutrition
  • Safe deliveries and newborn care in fragile settings

How we work

Close to the child, and close to the decision

Two things decide whether a child gets help: whether someone trusted is nearby, and whether anyone with a budget is listening. We work on both.

88p

of every pound goes directly to our work for children

The rest pays for the fundraising and governance that make the first 88p possible. Our full audited breakdown is published every year.

  1. Step 1

    We are already there

We do not fly in when a crisis makes the news. Most of our responses are run by teams who were living and working in that district the week before.

  2. Step 2

    We work through local partners

National organisations know which families are being missed. We fund them, train alongside them, and hand over programmes rather than holding on to them.

  3. Step 3

We change the rules, not just the outcome

Delivering aid treats the symptom. We also take the evidence to parliaments and budget committees so the next crisis is smaller.
